Comment - The woodblock "New Year's Day Kites and Mt. Fuji" shows three kites, rising in the air, with Mount Fuji in the background. It maybe sunrise, misty haze is floating over the distant landscape. The left kite is an Edo Kaku, the small brother of an Edo Kite, the kite bears the character "³ó" ("ushi") meaning "moth". The center kite is a Rokaku Kite with the symbol of the sun, representing Japan and the Japanese flag.
Watanabe PrintHouse produced a 1985 calendar. TAKAGI's print is the January sheet.

Takagi Shiro is a typical moku hanga artist. He works with the woodblock printmaking method and carves and prints himself. His favorite subjects are landscapes and birds and else. Takagi's prints were published at a certain phase of his career by Watanabe Printers. The Watanabe shop is the epitome of the shin hanga art movement.
