Comment - This greeting card shows a
yakko dako, a kite reel,
and a space rocket in a star spangled sky. Yakko kites ("yakko
dako", "Å«„J") are among the most popular kites in Japan. The
yakko is correctly bridled to the kite line. Because a yakko
is very difficult to fly without tails, therefore children
usually attach 2 to 4m long tails made by cut newspaper or
other kind of tape. Flying kites is a traditional pasttime for
boys on New Year's Day.
The space rocket is obviously a Gemini capsule. The Gemini
space program started in 1961 and concluded in 1966. The
greeting card woodblock may be printed within that time range.
