Comment - Four boys try to relieve an
edo kaku kite from a
Kadmatsu Pine, a typical
New Year's decoration. The small kite wears the common
National Sun Symbol. One of
the boys is standing on the elevated base of the Kadomatsu
tree, pulling both kite tails. He is trying to drag down the
kite from the tree twigs. The kite line hangs down in a large
swing. The boy in the center holds the
kite line spool (凧スプール, "tako
supūru"). All boys standing below, give their expert advice on
how to relieve the kite.
The top of the woodblock print shows a cloud
resembling decoration with a
Haikai
(poetry) from SHIGEMASA (unread) and the title of the print on
the right side (正月, "Shōgatsu", "First Month") .
