'Beauties Enjoying a Spring Stroll'

descriptive title

  1860 ~ 1864

Comment - Triptych depicting beauties enjoying a stroll along the waterfront in early spring. Some of the women smile happily at each other, while others frown and scowl as they exchange glances. Many pleasure boats and smaller craft move up and down the river, and many Edo kites fly high above the rooftops on the opposite shore, a popular activity at the New Year. Mt. Fuji can be seen in the distance at upper right. Nicely detailed setting and bokashi shading in the water and sky. The red cassettes are naming the depicted kabuki actors. The red-yellow-green cassette on the upper right of the right panel gives the title of the triptych.
