Artist – Utagawa
Sadafusa's (歌川貞房) real name was YONOSUKE Osawa (与之助 大
沢). Date of birth and death are not known. He became a
disciple of Utagawa Kunisada,
thus took up the his artist's name as Utagawa Sadafusa. His
active drawing period spans from the Bunsei to Kaei eras. Sadafusa
was known for illustrations for GoMaki books (合巻) a kind of
small e-hon books, as
well as prints depcting kabuki
plays and artists, bijin-e,
historical and mythic heroes, game board prints, an
some depictions of childrens play.
Personal
life - There is no more personal information about his
life.
Aliases - He
was born as YONOSUKE Osawa (与之助 大
沢). His artist's
name was Utagawa SADAFUSA (歌川貞房), but most often
used 'Sadafusa' without his schools affiliation. Known
epithets are Gokitei
(五亀亭), Gokotei (五湖亭), Gofutei (五楓亭), Okechoro (Tochoro)
(桶蝶楼), and Shinsai(震斎).
Disciples - So far, the only
known disciple was Utagawa Fusane (歌川房種), whom he inherited as
pupil after Kunisada's death.
