Artist – Torii KIYOTSUNE (鳥居 清経) was active from 1751 until 1781 (Horeki to An'ei era). Exact birth and death dates are unknown. KIYOTSUNE's personal name was Dajiro (大次郎).

Dajiro was the first pupil of Torii KIYOMITSU, the founder of the TORII School. His art name or "ga"  KIYOTSUNE literally means "pure and clean". KIYOTSUNE was senior to his schoolmate KIYONAGA. Despite being KIYONAGA's senior in the school, KIYONAGA succeded in becoming the head of the TORII school after the death of his adoptive father and teacher Torii KIYOMITSU.

KIYOTSUNE made many illustrations for printed books. Most of his to date handed down woodblock prints are single kabuki actor pictures (yakusha-e) and rare pictures of beautiful women (bijin-ga) . His woodblock prints are almost limited to benizuri-e ("pink prints"). According to the "Torii Family Tree", he was influenced by the painter "Kiyotsune" of the same name who was a member of the Torii school workshop in 1724, Torii Kiyonobu II (二代目 鳥居 清信 active 1725-1760) and Torii Kiyomasu II (鳥居 清倍, c. 1720–1750). Most of KIYOTSUNE's prints were made in a comic style manner, with monochrome black outlines, and the the outlined spaces would be don by hand colouring afterwards.

Personal life - Torii KIYOTSUNE (鳥居 清経) was the offspring of Nakajimaya Isaemon (中島屋 伊左衛門), a publisher and editor of a well known kabuki compendium.
