"Enjoying Kite"

("Tako asobi", "„Jß[¤Ó")

Reprint  1920

Comment - Charming scene by Isoda KORYUSAI (µEÌï ºþýˆ”È) of a young boy flying a bird-of prey kite along the banks of a stream. He runs along holding the string, looking over his shoulder, as a beauty holding a younger child watches at right. The boy in her arms reaches eagerly for the toy. A lovely design with a pine tree framing the scene and gently undulating water.

The original title (end of 19th century) is "Kite Enjoying" ("Tako asobi", "„Jß[¤Ó).

Publisher - Goyo Studio Reprints - Hashiguchi Goyo (˜ò¿Ú ÎåÈ~) is the undisputed master of the 20th century shin-hanga movement. A secondary part of his career was reprinting beautiful old ukiyo-e prints from the golden age of the print period. In 1920, much of Goyo¡¯s artistic work was devoted to creating these incredible woodblock reprints from the golden age of ukiyo-e. Each print was painstakingly copied from an original and stamped with the Goyo circular seal under the signature. Line by line, color by color, the prints were recreated in Goyo¡¯s studio to perfectly emulate these masterworks of ukiyo-e. Goyo took pride in this work and the release of his reprints was met with great acclaim.
