Artist ¨C Utagawa
Shigekiyo (¸è´¨ ÖØÇå), active during 1854-90, was a pupil of
Hiroshige and maybe of Kuniyoshi. He was a 4th
generation Utagawa member, and had been working together with
Kunisada-II, Kyosai, and Yoshitora.
He had been a woodcutter and engraver, and mainly was working
with historical genres (warriors, legendary scenes, etc.). He
also produced prints about foreigners
(yokohama-e), illustrated popular books, and made
drawings for tattoos.
Personal life - His life data are
very sparse. He was active during
1854-90. Neither his birthdate nor his date of
death are known.
